Villa Zottopera is an old 17th-18th century villa surrounded by century old olive trees from which a renowned oil is obtained. The villa has an elegant area with garden and swimming pool and it is located in the countryside of Chiaramonte Gulfi (RG) in a place that is interesting for its art and culture: Ragusa Ibla, Modica, Agrigento, Siracusa, Noto, Caltagirone, etc.
Guests can taste the simple and tasty dishes of the local farmer and stay in suggestive comfortable suite-flats. The Villa with the old buildings adjoining it and the Sicilian courtyard (baglio), the little church, the garden, the swimming pool, give an unforgettable moment of suggestive and poetic atmosphere, as well as a simple and friendly climate, thanks to the small number of guests and to our discrete company and careful service.
VILLA ZOTTOPERA is the heart of the firm Agrobiologica Rosso and it is a typical example of traditional local architecture with a "Baglio" (courtyard), dominated by the baronial villa and surrounded by small farmer's houses (nowadays fully renovated), from which 5 comfortable apartments have been obtained.
Villa Zottopera was built to be the stronghold of an old manor in the 15th century. Later it was extended with a millstone for the crushing of the grapes and an oil press operated by animals. The present building was completed in the 17th century. It looks like a small independent kingdom: a millstone used for grapes with a big wine cellar excavated in the limestone, the millstone is used for the extraction of olive oil, which is preserved in big built-in containers, located in the most protected cellar of the villa, and barns, stores, water reservoirs for the irrigation, labourers' dormitories used during the olive picking, the shepherd's house where he made a good peppered cheese (pepato), the guards'shelter and finally, for the relief of soul, the pretty little church.
