"Casa Grugno" restaurant is located nearby the Cathedral, in the very heart of the small Medieval town of Taormina. It has its setting in the sixteenth-century residence still known as "Casa Cipolla". The building is adorned with Gothic-Catalan style portals and Renaissance windows. Thanks to the mentioned architectural evidence, we can easily assume that the palace was one of the dwellings owned by the Catalan family "Grugno", who lived in Taormina in the 15th century. Hence the peculiar name of our restaurant, related to the finding of Grugno family's coat of arms in the basement of Madonna delle Grazie statue, placed inside Taormina's dome.
The restaurant is characterised by a refined service under the sensible guide of our maitre sommelier, Giuseppe Privitera, who offers competent and attentive advice amongst the wide choice of wines from all over the world. In summertime, our guests can reserve a table outdoor in our picturesque inner garden. Our chef, Andreas Zangerl, has reinterpreted the old traditional recipes, by reviving Sicilian gastronomy through a modern idea of Mediterranean cooking, a concept relying on both the typicality of regional produce and the importance of natural creativity, which transforms each culinary creation into great cuisine.
