Scicli, whose name probably derives from the Sicles, the most ancient Sicilian inhabitants, is located on a hilly area along the coast. It was conquered by the Greeks, Romans, Carthaginians, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans and Aragon.Today Scicli is characterized by a typical Sicilian late-Baroque style; for this reason it is declared by UNESCO World Heritage Site in addition to the other localities in Val di Noto. The Church of San Matteo, set on the homonymous hill, the Church of San Bartolomeo, the XVII century Church of Sant'Ignazio, the Church of Santa Maria La Nuova, which has a Gagini statue inside, the Palazzo Beneventano, the Palazzo Spadaro and the Palazzo Fava worth a visit.
