Panarea, the ancient Eunoymos (meaning "located on the left side") is the smallest and the most ancient island of the Aeolian archipelago. The present island is just a part of the originary one because the greatest part sank in the sea after a volcanic eruption. The small islands (Basiluzzo, Dattilo, Lisca Bianca) and the islets (Bottaro, Lisca Nera, Panarelli and Le Formiche) belong to the same volcanic complex and represent a little archipelago on their own. Of volcanic origin, in addition to the other islands of the archipelago, some volcanic phenomena are still visible, such as fumaroles, gas and hot springs. The remains of an ancient prehistoric village, located at Cala Junco, worth a visit.
